The old parish church for the area was New Monkland but, as the town grew, it became obvious that the population was outgrowing what one church could accommodate. A Secession congregation was formed in 1789, which became Wellwynd Congregation. Until a building could be erected, it met in a tent. Then a second building was built in 1847 and was used by the congregation until the union in 1995. The West Parish Story began in 1834 when the ‘Friends of the Church of Scotland’ were motivated to build a church to serve the town. This is now the building used by The New Wellwynd. Many changes have taken place over the years, not least the union in 1995. Our building stands in the town centre as a reminder of our christian heritage. We are justly proud of that heritage and the Christian witness in Airdrie over the years. |

Mission Statement
We, ‘The New Wellwynd’, aim to be a vibrant, caring, worshipping community of faith, which relates well to God, involving all members, with significant outreach to the wider community.

The New Wellwynd Parish Church was formed on September 17th 1995 by a union between the West Parish and Wellwynd Churches. Both these former congregations have, throughout the years, been intimately connected with the development and growth of the town of Airdrie.
